Headwear Industry Notes for October 2026: Midterms, Holiday Deadlines and What Shops Should Do Now

Decorators United

A short, practical read on what is shaping custom headwear orders this month, from the November election to holiday in-hands dates.

These are not market-report numbers. They are the things I am planning around at a Spokane sewing shop in October 2026, and the things I would want a hat brand, a decorator or a campaign volunteer to know before the next two months get busy.

Election Day is a hat deadline

The midterm elections are on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. If your campaign, issue group or volunteer team wants hats in hand before then, work backward from that date and leave room for artwork approval, production and delivery. The window is short, so it pays to start now.

  • Volunteer and canvasser hats work best in simple, high-contrast designs that read from across a street.

  • Get-out-the-vote and event hats are easier when the design is final before you ask for a quote.

  • Be realistic. If artwork is not approved this week, ask me what is possible. I would rather tell you straight than promise a date I cannot hit.

Holiday orders are landing now

Corporate gifts, team gifts and holiday event hats are the second wave of fall orders. Beanies with patches are especially in demand in a place like Spokane, where they get worn daily from now until spring. My Q4 patch hat production calendar lays out the dates to work from.

The World Cup left a mark on headwear

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, held across the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer, put soccer style in front of a lot of people. It is worth watching how that carries into everyday headwear this fall and winter.

  • Crest-style patches with a shield or circular badge shape suit club-and-country looks, and they are easy to build as a woven or PVC patch.

  • Relaxed, wearable shapes such as dad hats, bucket hats and low-profile caps fit that streetwear-meets-fan-gear style.

  • Bold, limited color palettes tend to hold up better in patch form than artwork with many gradients.

What to do now

  • Lock the artwork first. Mock it up in the free hat mockup generator so everyone approves the same picture.

  • Place holiday and election orders early. Orders start at 24 hats, and I send quotes within 24 hours.

  • Get help with capacity. If you run a decoration shop or a brand and need extra hands for the rush, take a look at my contract sewing service.

  • Plan the new year. If a hat brand is on your list for 2027, my guide to how to start a hat brand is a good place to begin.

Have a date you are worried about? Request a quote on my custom patch hats page and tell me the date you need them by.
