What is a structured hat?
In a structured cap the two front panels are backed with buckram, a stiff fabric that keeps the crown upright even when the hat is off your head. The result is a taller, sharper silhouette that looks the same on every wearer.
Structured hats come in low, mid and high profiles. Mid-profile is the safe middle ground for most heads and most logos, which is why it is the default hat in the visualizer.
Best decorations for structured hats
- Leatherette and leather patches. A firm front keeps the patch flat, so laser-engraved detail stays crisp.
- 3D puff embroidery. Foam-raised stitching needs a stable backing to hold its shape; the buckram provides it.
- Woven and embroidered patches. Merrowed edges sit square on a structured face and read well from a distance.
- PVC patches. Rigid rubber patches pair naturally with a rigid crown.
