Custom Beanies: Cuffed Beanie Patches, Embroidery and Mockups

Quick answerCustom beanies are usually decorated on the folded cuff, which gives a flat, double-thick surface for embroidery or a patch. Cuffed beanies are the most popular choice for logos. Woven labels, leatherette patches and flat embroidery all work well, while 3D puff is not recommended on knit fabric.

What is a beanie?

Beanies come cuffed, with a fold-over band at the bottom, or uncuffed, where the logo sits directly on the knit. Tall 12-inch cuffed beanies can be worn slouchy or folded; 8-inch beanies sit closer to the head.

Knit fabric stretches, so decorations should be flexible or applied to the stable cuff.

Best decorations for beanies

  • Flat embroidery on the cuff. The double-thick cuff holds stitches neatly.
  • Leatherette patches. A rustic patch on a cuffed beanie is a best-selling look for outdoor and craft brands.
  • Woven labels and loop labels. A small label on the cuff or side seam reads as retail quality.

Logo size guide

LocationTypical maximum
Front of the cuffup to about 5″ wide and 2″ tall, depending on cuff depth
Side of the cuffup to about 3″ wide

Beanies: common questions

Where do you put a logo on a beanie?

Most logos go on the front of the cuff. On uncuffed beanies the logo sits about an inch above the bottom edge.

Can you do 3D puff embroidery on a beanie?

It is not recommended. Knit fabric stretches and puff foam can distort; flat embroidery or a patch looks better.

How do I preview my logo on a beanie?

Open the Hat Visualizer and choose a beanie, or upload photos of your own beanie with "Your own beanie" to see your logo on the exact knit you plan to order.
